How long RC nitro fuel lasts depends on your own engine, setup and driving, so no single figure fits everyone. Time one tank with a stopwatch, enter it below with your tank size and fuel price, and see the tanks, fuel and cost per session and per month. This is a budget estimate only, not runtime or tuning advice.

How to use the nitro fuel runtime and cost calculator

Every field starts empty. The calculator uses only the numbers you type, and nothing is saved or sent anywhere. You can type decimals with a dot or a comma, so both 12.5 and 12,5 work.

  1. Enter your tank size in cc. The figure is in your manual or printed on the tank.
  2. Enter the minutes per tank you timed yourself. See the steps below.
  3. Enter your session length in minutes and how many sessions per month you plan. Zero sessions is allowed.
  4. Enter the fuel price you paid for one bottle and the bottle volume, then pick its unit: US quart, US pint, US gallon, liter, mL or US fl oz. Add a currency symbol if you want one shown.
  5. Choose whether to count part tanks as fractions or to fill every tank completely, which rounds the tank count up.
  6. The results update as you type. You can also press Calculate.

How to time your own tank

  1. Fill the tank and start a stopwatch when you begin driving.
  2. Stop it when the engine stops or when you bring the truck in to refill.
  3. Repeat this for a few tanks under the same conditions, then enter the figure you want to budget with.

Run times vary with the engine, setup, driving style and conditions. This tool does not predict them. It only works forward from the time you measured.

How the numbers are worked out

The calculator first converts your bottle to cubic centimeters (1 cc = 1 mL) and then works through these steps. Every value stays unrounded until it is displayed.

  1. Price per cc = fuel price ÷ (bottle volume × cc per unit)
  2. Tanks per session = session minutes ÷ minutes per tank. This is rounded up to a whole tank if “fill every tank completely” is selected.
  3. Fuel per session = tanks per session × tank size (cc)
  4. Monthly fuel = fuel per session × sessions per month, also shown in US quarts (÷ 946.352946)
  5. Cost per session = fuel per session × price per cc
  6. Monthly cost = monthly fuel × price per cc

US fluid ounce29.5735295625

US customary units. Imperial quarts and gallons are larger, so choose liters or mL if your bottle is labeled in those units.

If the numbers you enter are so large that the result cannot be calculated, the tool shows a message in the results box instead of a figure.

What this calculator does not tell you

The tool answers a budgeting question: how far your bottle of nitro fuel goes and what it costs at the rate you measured. It does not give runtime, tuning, break-in or engine-health advice. It also does not suggest that one fuel, engine or brand lasts longer or costs less.

  • Fuel left in the tank at the end of a session is not modeled.
  • Fuel used for warm-up, priming, spills and tuning runs is not included, unless your timed tanks already cover it.
  • If your tank lasts longer than a session, tanks per session will be below 1. That is a valid result. The “fill every tank completely” option counts it as one full tank.

Methodology & sources

The calculator uses only the values you enter and standard unit definitions. It holds no third-party data, prices, run times or consumption rates. All calculations run in your browser.

  • Wikipedia: Gallon. The US gallon is 231 cubic inches, or 3,785.411784 mL.
  • Wikipedia: Quart. The US liquid quart is 946.352946 mL.
  • Wikipedia: Pint. The US liquid pint is 473.176473 mL.
  • Wikipedia: Fluid ounce. The US fluid ounce is 29.5735295625 mL.
  • Wikipedia: Cubic centimetre. 1 cc equals 1 mL.

Safety: Nitro fuel is flammable and toxic. Follow the fuel manufacturer’s label and your engine’s manual for storage, handling and ventilation, and keep it away from children and ignition sources. This calculator is a budget estimate only, not runtime, tuning or safety advice.

FAQ

How long does RC nitro fuel last?

It depends on your engine, setup, driving and conditions, so no single figure applies. Time a few of your own tanks, enter that time here, and the calculator shows how many tanks, how much fuel and what cost your sessions add up to.

How do I work out how much RC nitro fuel I use per month?

Multiply the tanks you burn per session by your tank size, then by your sessions per month. The calculator does this from the numbers you enter and also converts the total to US quarts.

What does ‘Fill every tank completely’ change?

It rounds the tanks per session up to a whole number, because a part-used tank still has to be filled. Only the tank count changes; fuel and cost follow from it.

Can I enter my fuel price in liters or fluid ounces?

Yes. Pick the bottle unit (US quart, US pint, US gallon, liter, mL or US fl oz) and the calculator converts it to a price per cc using standard unit definitions.

Does this calculator predict my real runtime?

No. It is a budget estimate based only on the numbers you enter. It is not runtime, tuning or engine advice.
